What was the best part of your Belk College experience?
The best part of my experience was engaging and learning from my professors with “worldly” business backgrounds during the learning experience and reinforcing my learning process by collaboratively working in teams.
Why did you choose UNC Charlotte for your MBA?
The Belk College offered a number of MBA disciplines that were more comprehensive than many comparable institutions. I didn’t believe a “vanilla” MBA would be as competitive in the marketplace. UNC Charlotte’s Business Finance discipline captured both large and small business financial management challenges and provided a more well-rounded subject matter development and applicability.
Why an MBA?
As a business sales executive with more than 20 years of financial services industry experience, I chose to pursue an MBA with a Business Finance focus to enhance my quantitative skills, market distinctiveness and competitiveness. In addition, the collaborative group learning environment and culture at UNC Charlotte helped to greatly enhance educational content, receptivity, comprehension and “real world” applicability.
What did you learn in the Belk College that has best prepared you for your career?
The experience greatly enhanced my ability to quantitatively position financial and economic values associated with the application of an enhanced technology process and organizational solutions in any business environment or situation.
To which professional or philanthropic organizations do you give your time?
I am an industry advocate of the financial planning process as a CFP® or Certified Financial Planner™, licensee. I’m also involved with Toastmasters International, a communication and leadership development organization, as a DTM or Distinguished Toastmaster.
What advice do you have for current Belk College students?
Always engage and challenge your professors. Take full advantage of collaborative learning opportunities with peers. Be prepared to deliver and accept new ideas as a group contributor during the learning process. Don’t be afraid to broach new concepts in both academic and business environments.
